Watertown Notable Women Buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery

Wednesday, February 13, 2019

Maud DeLeigh Hodges writes in Watertown: Crossroads on the Charles (974.443 HOD 1980) “Watertown was founded in 1630, the first inland settlement in Massachusetts. It began as a Puritan settlement; it became a hub for trade and commerce…. Waves of migration brought a diverse group of people to the town: Puritan, Irish, Italian, Armenian, Greek, Jew and Canadian.” This talk with slides celebrates that diversity, featuring women Hodges describes as notables. This talk also celebrates Mount Auburn Cemetery, a Watertown landmark that holds their remains and the monuments dedicated to their memory. Rosemarie Smurzynski is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister. She graduated from Harvard Divinity School in 1980 and has served Unitarian Universalist congregations and institutions for over 40 years. Upon retirement from parish ministry in 2010, Rosemarie became a volunteer at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
