Book Groups

The library currently hosts three book groups. Both groups are always happy to welcome new members; you may come every month, or once in a while as you are able. All are welcome!

Adult Book Group
The Adult Book Discussion Group meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 P.M.  Discussions are lively and informal, generally based on personal reactions, not academic analysis.  Our Book Group members love to read and share ideas and impressions about what we have read. View the calendar to find out when we're meeting next. Copies of these titles are available 2 weeks before the meeting date at the Circulation desk.

Cook the Books!

Join us as we cook the books at the Watertown Free Public Library. Every month we will highlight one cookbook and on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM people who would like to discuss the book can bring in one dish, prepared from the selected book, to share with the group.  This will give everyone a chance to sample many dishes while only having to prepare one. Start drooling now!

We will discuss the current book, its recipes and format, as well as other cookbooks and food related topics while eating the dishes people prepared. As a group we will also choose future cookbooks to highlight in upcoming cookbook programs. You can reserve a copy of the current book yourself or stop by the reference desk to get a copy. To help us plan for supplies we ask that you sign up at the reference desk in person or by phone. If you wish, you can also let us know what dish you are planning on preparing so we limit overlap-not that having six carrot cakes would be a bad thing.

Mystery Lovers’ Group
Our Mystery Lovers’ Group is not strictly a book group, but has a broader mission of exploring anything mystery-related that appeals to the group’s members. They meet the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 P.M., and discuss anything and everything related to the mystery genre. One month might be a discussion of favorite authors, one month might talk about favorite mystery bookshops, and the next month might be a book discussion. You never know what you’ll discover at this group meeting, but it’s sure to be mysterious!! View the calendar to find out more about upcoming meetings.
