Teen Summer Reading

WFPL Teen Summer Reading Program
June 23 - August 25, 2014

How does it work?
For every hour you read, you get one point.  Use your points to win AMAZING prizes at the auction at the end of the summer. Easy!
1.     Register for the program at the TEEN SUMMER READING ICE CREAM PARTY on June 23 at 3 pm. If you cannot make it to the party, you are welcome to sign up anytime at the teen desk.

2.     Record the hours you read and what you read on your summer reading log. To be fair to all participants we have limited the amount of points a reader can earn in one week (1 hour = 1 point). Every week a reader can earn up to 24 points.

3.     Turn your summer reading log(s) in to the teen desk at the library anytime between June 23 and August 23 at 5 pm.

4.     Come to the TEEN SUMMER READING AUCTION on August 25 at 3 pm and win prizes!
Who can participate?
Kids going into grades 6 through 12 are invited to participate in the TEEN summer reading program.

What counts as summer reading?
Books and ebooks, audiobooks (cds or playaways or downloadable), and graphic novels. Just ask us if you are unsure if what you are reading is eligible for points.
Where can I get my summer reading logs?
You can pick up your summer reading logs at the teen desk in the library. All you have to do is record your hours, note what books you read and then turn the reading log(s) in to the teen desk. We’ll keep track of your logs for the summer. All reading logs are due on August 23 at 5 pm!
What if I can’t come to the auction?
If you cannot make it to the auction, we will have prizes for you to pick up at a later date.

In addition to the Teen Summer Reading Ice Cream Party and the Teen Summer Reading Auction, we have fun stuff to do in the Teen Room almost every day! For the most up-to-date information please check the library’s website.

Creative Writing
Teen department staff will be offering creative writing sessions, no previous writing experience is required. This is a super FUN and supportive environment that gives participants a chance to share their writing with their peers.

Freaky Friday and ????
What is happening?!?!?!? Is it a joke contest? Is it a pet show? Is it a poetry slam? Is it all of the above? We are reserving our Fridays and a few other days for amazing new programs that we want to try out. You are definitely going to want to stay tuned for what we have in store.

Tabletop Game Time
Learn how to play awesome tabletop games (board games, card games, etc) that you’ve probably never played before! We’ll be learning a new game every week and all games will be available for use in the Teen Room.

Teen Craft
Every week we’ll be making something awesome! No registration required, although we do have a limited amount of supplies, so first come, first served.

Teen Movie
Watch new movies (and old) on the big screen! Snacks will be provided. To find out what we’re watching just give us a call at (617) 972-6437.

If you have any other questions or comments about these activities, please contact us in the Teen Room at (617) 972-6437 or stop on by the library!
